NeverMore Books and the nonprofit Pat Conroy Literary Center will host an evening with novelist Kimberly Brock, author of The Lost Book of Eleanor Dare--in conversation with Holland Perryman and Jonathan Haupt.
In this workshop, we take a close look at the children’s book There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly , the Marc Richard short story, “Strays,” and Donald Barthelme's "The School" to see what they can teach us about how to structure a work in progress.
In honor of National Poetry Month, join Jonathan Haupt and Beaufort High School students Holland Perryman, Alisha Arora, and Millie Bennett as they explore Pat Conroy’s lifelong relationship with poetry as a reader, as a self-described “failed poet,” and as a writer who found a creative outlet for his Great Love of poetry in his lyrical and descriptive prose.
This free in-person poetry workshop will open with passages written by Pat Conroy that explore his relationship with his mother, Peg Conroy. Participants will then take an active role in reading selected poems by Jamaica Kincaid, Li Young Lee, Dorianne Laux, Kiki Petrosino, Raymod Antrobus, and Sharon Olds for discussion.

First Presbyterian Church of Beaufort and the nonprofit Pat Conroy Literary Center will host the special in-person community outreach event, The Faith of Pat Conroy, on Wednesday, May 18, at 6:00 p.m., in the sanctuary of First Presbyterian (410 Church St., Beaufort).
In this workshop, we will explore how to write a cliff-hanger and how to know when to wrap up a scene. We'll also discuss the importance of complex characters and how to lop off those wonderful setting descriptions and cling to the action. We will discover as writers how to write our own page-turners.

The Pat Conroy Literary Center’s 5th annual Camp Conroy Summer Camp for Young Writers and Artists, Ages 8 to 14 will be held June 13-24, 2022.
This special pair of workshops is designed to engage with writers and creators searching for their storytelling voice. Instructor Iris Jackson will share experiences from her Telling Trails photos, poems, and writings, providing time for comments and conversation, with the goal of students creating and sharing their own narratives.
In this workshop, Mary will share the stories beyond her books, including how she developed and published them. Through Mary's stories of the missteps she took, the lessons she learned, and the approaches which now guide her publishing journey, she will offer advice and guidance for writers seeking to craft and publish their own books.
