6th Annual March Forth: FREE read-aloud for K-3rd grade students and their families. Snacks provided. Bring your favorite stuffed animal. Beaufort High students will be reading from a variety of children's picture books.
6th Annual March Forth: FREE kid-friendly readings and craft projects inspired by The Paper Bag Princess, written by Robert Munch and illustrated by Michael Martchenko, featuring staff from Bluffton's children's bookstore the Storybook Shoppe and local volunteers.
Featuring a dozen poets, this year's virtual Kick-Start National Poetry Month Reading offers an opportunity to gather online in celebration of the written and spoken word.
Poet Glenis Redmond is a 2022 inductee of the South Carolina Academy of Authors (the Palmetto State’s Literary Hall of Fame) and a 2020 recipient of the South Carolina Governor’s Award for the Arts. Poet Marlanda Dekine is newly named as the South Carolina Arts Commission Fellow for Spoken Word / Slam Poetry and winner of the 2021 New Southern Voices Poetry Prize.
UPDATE: This event is now at full capacity. Four award-winning novelists will read from and discuss their work at the nonprofit Pat Conroy Literary Center (601 Bladen St., Beaufort) on Saturday, January 21, at 5:00 p.m.
Weatherly will be reading from her poetry at Sandies at the Beaufort County Black Chamber of Commerce (711 Bladen St.) on Friday, February 3, at 5:30 p.m.
The nonprofit Pat Conroy Literary Center and Beaufort Arts Council will host art historian Midori Yamamura, speaking on Yoko Ono’s Painting to Hammer a Nail (1966) and poet Luis H. Francia, reading from his newest collection Thorn Grass (2021).
The annual Kick-Start Poetry Month Reading honors the start of National Poetry Month each April and is hosted in partnership between the Hilton Head Island Writers' Network, the Hilton Head Island Office of Cultural Affairs, and the Pat Conroy Literary Center.
This highly interactive virtual session will feature Natasha Akery's new book of haiku, in [the name], and other haiku. Akery has published her work on social media for years, and also uses haiku in her classrooms as a teaching tool. Aided by fellow poet Miho Kinnas, Akery will discuss various topics on haiku and welcome questions from the audience.
