BO ART studio and store in Hilton Head Island, SC

BO ART presents, in partnership with the Pat Conroy Literary Center, The Stone Necklace Meets the Stone Master January 11 from 10 am to 3 pm.

This unique arts collaboration teams Columbia author Carla Damron with Hilton Head jewelry maker Logan Leggs in a flexible schedule of experiences. Make an appointment and spend a hands-on hour learning the art of polishing stones with Logan.

Midday, sit with Carla for a book talk and catered bag lunch.

In the afternoon, writers can switch to a character development class with Carla at 1 pm while Logan’s appointments continue. Attendees may commission a custom piece of jewelry by Logan Leggs Designs using their polished stone at a 10% discount. The Stone Necklace will be available for sale and Carla will sign your copy. Choose all three, choose just one, combine any two, make the day exactly what fits you.

THE ARTISTS

Carla Damron is a novelist, short story writer, advocate, and social worker. Her novel The Stone Necklace, which was selected the 2016 One Book, One Community read for Richland County, South Carolina, was chosen to receive the prestigious “Star” Award for Best Novel by the Women’s Fiction Writers Association. Her short stories have appeared in the Offbeat Literary Journal, Fall Lines, Jasper’s Marked by Water, Melusine Magazine, and other journals. Carla began her writing career (not counting the bird poem she wrote at age eight) authoring the Caleb Knowles Mystery series. She has an MFA in Creative Writing and a master’s degree in social work. www.carladamron.com

Logan Leggs‘ work is a love song to rocks personally searched for and collected in his travels across America. First trained as a musician, in California he found a new passion as a rock climber and collector in the southern California desert. He met an artist in Central California, a connection that led to fashioning Tokens of Inspiration necklaces to give to strangers. This experience began his commitment to art cooperatives and a philosophy of giftivism. He developed a talent for wire wrapping, a technique similar to basket weaving but with metal, and his love of art met his love of rocks. He returned to Hilton Head Island and began Logan Leggs Designs, where he cuts, shapes and polishes his own stones and makes intricate chains by hand to create one-of-a-kind custom pieces. His studio is located inside of BO ART, a local collaborative studio and makers’ space on the south end, and his line is showcased at J Costello Gallery.

This program and others like this would not be possible without your financial help for which, as always, Pat Conroy Literary Center gratefully thanks you.
