Kick-Start National Poetry Month Reading 2022

Featuring a dozen poets, this year's virtual Kick-Start National Poetry Month Reading offers an opportunity to gather online in celebration of the written and spoken word.


Poetry Workshop: Mapping Mother Relationships

Pat Conroy Literary Center 601 Bladen Street, Beaufort, SC

This free in-person poetry workshop will open with passages written by Pat Conroy that explore his relationship with his mother, Peg Conroy. Participants will then take an active role in reading selected poems by Jamaica Kincaid, Li Young Lee, Dorianne Laux, Kiki Petrosino, Raymod Antrobus, and Sharon Olds for discussion.


An Evening of Poetry with Glenis Redmond and Marlanda Dekine

Poet Glenis Redmond is a 2022 inductee of the South Carolina Academy of Authors (the Palmetto State’s Literary Hall of Fame) and a 2020 recipient of the South Carolina Governor’s Award for the Arts. Poet Marlanda Dekine is newly named as the South Carolina Arts Commission Fellow for Spoken Word / Slam Poetry and winner of the 2021 New Southern Voices Poetry Prize.


Workshop: Creating Couplets and Ekphrastic Poetry with Glenis Redmond

SC Academy of Authors inductee, Upstate South Carolina poet, and teaching artist Glenis Redmond explores the power of poetry through the legacy of David Drake, also known as Dave the Potter, an enslaved potter-poet from Aiken, South Carolina.
