The annual Kick-Start Poetry Month Reading honors the start of National Poetry Month each April and is hosted in partnership between the Hilton Head Island Writers' Network, the Hilton Head Island Office of Cultural Affairs, and the Pat Conroy Literary Center.
Featuring a dozen poets, this year's virtual Kick-Start National Poetry Month Reading offers an opportunity to gather online in celebration of the written and spoken word.
Pat Conroy Literary Center executive director Jonathan Haupt will discuss Conroy’s lifelong love of books and libraries—focusing on the roles public libraries, school libraries, and Pat's own personal library played in his writing life.
After a disaster like Hurricane Matthew, communities can find comfort in poetry and conversations that speak to their shared experience and shared loss. Natural disasters can stir-up strong emotions, which are often put on the back burner as communities address the physical setbacks in their communities. This workshop will focus on healing through reading, writing, and dialogue.
