Meet Pat Conroy Literary Center executive director and Our Prince of Scribes co-editor Jonathan Haupt at the annual Kentucky Book Festival, hosted by Kentucky Humanities on Saturday, November 16, at Alltech Arena at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington. This event is free and open to the public. Learn more at www.kyhumanities.org/programs/kentucky-book-festival.

The beloved author of The Water Is Wide, The Great Santini, The Lords of Discipline, and The Prince of Tides, Pat Conroy (1945–2016) inspired a worldwide legion of devoted fans numbering in the millions, but none are more loyal to him and more committed to sustaining his literary legacy than the many writers he nurtured over the course of his 50-year writing life. In sharing their stories of Conroy in Our Prince of Scribes, 67 of Conroy’s fellow writers honor his memory and advance our shared understanding of his lasting impact on 20th- and 21st-century literary life in and well beyond the American South.

Our Prince of Scribes has been honored as the Silver Medal Winner for Best Regional Nonfiction by the 2019 Independent Publisher Book Awards, the First Place Winner for Best Nonfiction Anthology in the 2019 International Book Awards, a Fall 2018 Okra Pick of the Southern Independent Booksellers Alliance, a 2018 official selection of the Pulpwood Queens Book Club, and a reading list recommendation of Deep South Magazine and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Book sales of Our Prince of Scribes help support the educational mission of the nonprofit Pat Conroy Literary Center.

Praise for “OUR PRINCE OF SCRIBES”

“Our Prince of Scribes isn’t just a collection of homages but also a delightful introduction to Conroy’s vast and talented circle of friends.”—Washington Post

“A moving tribute to the legacy of one of the South’s brightest lights.”–Garden & Gun’s Talk of the South

“The 2016 loss of acclaimed author Pat Conroy hit hard with readers, but none more so than his peers. In this book, authors who revered Conroy for his storytelling share their memories and stories of his life in an epic, vibrant way. Their candor gives readers a better view of the man behind so many of the Southern stories that have come to be classics–and, in the telling, create a classic of their own.”–It’s a Southern Thing
