This series of three 90-minute workshops, Reading as “Reading the Room” approaches the immersive act of reading as a vehicle of self-reflection and empathy--as moral character practice--as well as textual analysis and enjoyment of story. Participants will be guided through an active and interactive approach to close readings of three short stories, engaging with the texts and with one another for a deeper appreciation of both and seeking the inspiration and revelation only great stories can provide. The workshop readings will be Annie Dillard's "The Wreck of Time," Primo Levi's "Force Majeur," and J.M. Coetzee's "The Lives of Animals." Reading in advance of each workshops is required.
